Want to write a story but you're all out of ideas? Have an idea for a story but you'd rather let someone else write it? No problem! Here you can take some inspiration from our challenges or post your own ideas to let others use them!
If you're submitting a story to one of the challenges, post a reply to the challenge, providing the name of the story as well as a link to it (here on ATWWNS!), and when you post your story (using the form in Account info), put it in the category for that particular challenge.
If you want to submit a challenge, go to our submission form to send it to us, and we will add it to the site once it's been approved.
We will post a few new challenges every month, but of course you can submit stories for our previous challenges if they inspire you! Have fun writing!
To view submitted challenge fics, browse our Challenge category.
The point of this challenge is for us to have something to keep us busy while we wait, and so that those who are dying to know what Kate’s character Miranda will be like can try to explore it on their own.
The challenge will only be open until the first episode of Three Rivers airs on CBS on October 4th 2009, after that we will all know what she’s like and won’t need this. So please, if you in some way are able to watch the pilot before it airs, don’t submit stories to this challenge. Just place your stories in the normal Three Rivers category, and not the challenge one.
b>Summary: You can chose to write about whatever you want, as long as Miranda is a main character. Pair her up with one of the other characters or just let her be on her own, but try to paint us a picture of who you think she is, or at least who she should be.
Timeline: Any. You can set it before the pilot episode, at some point in the first season, in the future, or in her past.
Word limit: At least 500 words.
Story type/length: One-shot or multi-chapter, doesn’t matter.
Other requirements: Please place your story in the Three Rivers category to access the character listing, use the OOC warning just to stay on the safe side, and use any other warnings that apply. PLEASE NOTE – You must have at least one Shenny story published in the archive to post stories for this challenge. After Three Rivers starts, anyone will be able to post Miranda-centered stories.

Who knows if there'll ever be a movie? Who knows what it'll be like? If the first 6 seasons are any indication of the storyline we'll get to see it'll most likely be some cheesy crap about a Tibette wedding in New York, and I have a feeling I'm not the only one who'd rather make out with Niki Stevens than watch that...
So here's the challenge:
The story has to be set at some point after episode 6x06. You can decide whether or not episodes 6x07 and 6x08 ever happened.
It can be a group fic (where all characters have major storylines) or Shenny centered, but even if it's the latter all characters need to have something going on in their lives in the story. However, you can of course not to include some or all of the other characters if you want, if Shane and Jenny have for example left LA or just stopped hanging out with them for whatever reason.
Since it's supposed to be like a movie, there has to be a different feel to it compared to the show - there has to be a main storyline, and a clear beginning and an end. Scenes can also be shorter and longer periods of time can pass between them if necessary.
The story can be as long as you want it to be, but preferably longer than a one-shot.
And just so there's no confusion - this is NOT meant to be a script-format fic. The same rules as always apply.

Timeline: On Valentine's Day, during season 6. Use spoiler warnings where necessary.
Word limit: 500 words or more.
Story type/length: One-shot!
Characters: Jenny and/or Shane, that's the minimum. Add other characters if necessary.
Other requirements: It would be nice if more people would try their hands at writing a story from either Shane's or Jenny's point of view, but this is not really a requirement, just a suggestion if you feel up for it.

Timeline: Any point in time from Season 1 to Season 6. Make sure you use spoiler warnings if necessary. The story doesn't have to cover more than a day during the holidays, as long as that's the time of the year it takes place.
Word limit: 500 words or more.
Story type/length: One-shot! If you have to make it a multi-chapter story, the whole story must fit within the rules of this challenge.
Characters: Jenny and/or Shane, that's the minimum. Add other characters if necessary.
Other requirements: Write the story in either first person/present tense OR third person/past tense. Would be nice if we could get some more stories told from Shane's or Jenny's point of view.

Summary: Come up with a new way that Shane and Jenny could have met, become friends and fallen in love. Did they meet in high school? College? Did Shane cut Jenny's hair and things went from there? Is Tim still an obstacle or is Jenny single? Did the Marina thing ever happen or is Shane Jenny's first experience with women? Is Shane still a hairstylist or is she doing something else? Is Jenny still a writer? Did the two of them know each other when Shane was in foster care?
Think about it and get creative! You can work within the series (pre season five finale, obviously) or go AU, so long as you keep it about as realistic as the series itself (ie. keep it close to the show's tone). Fantasy is okay, but make sure it's relatively popular/ familiar to people - not some weird, obscure book fandom nobody's ever heard of, okay?

And yes, this challenge contains some minor spoilers for season 5, so don't read it if you don't want to know.
At the start of episode 5x02, Jenny and Tina are at a meeting about Jenny's movie and how they need to add more sex scenes with random characters. A few quite strange ones are mentioned, and Jenny and Tina's reaction is that it would never happen. But what would it be like if it did?
Summary: What I want you to do, is take Shane or Jenny and pair her up with character from the L Word that she has never had sex with on the show. (Preferably one that even YOU find it hard to imagine her with!) It's okay if they've kissed, like Jenny and Alice did in 4x05, or Shane and Helena in 5x03, as long as it didn't turn into something more. For example, a story about Shane and Cherie wouldn't be allowed for this challenge, while a story about Shane and Clea would. The story doesn't need to contain any sex scenes (it can of course), but the characters must in some way be romantically/sexually involved if only just for a while. That means, no friendship stories. How seriously you take this challenge is up to you. You can either try to come up with a strange pairing and try to make it seem believable, or you can do the opposite and make as much fun of it as you possibly can. If you need help coming up with strange pairings, just contact me and I'll give you a few. (Shane/Lenore, anyone?) LOL
Timeline: Any point in time from Season 1 to Season 6. Make sure you use spoiler warnings if necessary.
Word limit: 500 words or more.
Story type/length: Preferably a one-shot, but if you can make it longer, I say go for it.
Characters: The focus should be on Shane OR Jenny, and the person you choose to pair her up with. You can add other characters if you need to.
Genres: Must be one or more of the following: Comedy, Romance, PWP. You can choose any of the others as well if you want, of course.
Other requirements: Have fun and go crazy! And remember: "Sexuality is fluid, whether you're gay or you're straight or you're bisexual, you just go with the flow."

Summary: The story can be about anything you want - but it must include the 10 words specified below. You may of course change the words slightly to fit better by adding to them (but not the other way around), for example the word "cup" can be either a noun or a verb, it can be changed to "cups", "cupped" or "World Cup" if that better suits your story. However, the word "pages" can NOT be changed back to "page". The order in which the words appear in the story doesn't matter.
Words: The story MUST include the following words: close, pages, cup, alone, call, different, key, blue, headlights, distract.
Timeline: Season 4, Season 5, or later.
Word limit: 500 words or more.
Story type/length: One shot.
Characters: Shane and Jenny, but you can include any other character(s) you want.
Genre: Any.

Summary: Shenny leave LA to take some time off and go someplace where they can be alone together. Where they go and what they do is entirely up to you. If they aren't already in a relationship at the start of the story, something should be done about that by the time they get home.
Timeline: This can take place at any point in the timeline, from season 1 to season 6. Make sure you include the appropriate spoiler warnings where necessary.
Word limit: Story should be no less than 1500 words, but there's no max-limit.
Story type/length: Preferably one-shot, but a series is okay too.
Characters: Shane and Jenny, since they're going away together. Only include other characters if they talk to them on the phone or meet up with them somewhere for whatever reason. Shenny are going away together alone, so other characters shouldn't be necessary.
Genre: Adventure, AU, romance. You can of course use more than these if you want to, but those 3 are required.
